Track your progress and get in shape with Wii-Fit

Wii-fit is a new game for the Nintendo Wii designed by Shigeru Miyamoto. It comes with the Wii Balance Board, a controller that can measure a persons weight and their center of gravity, and also can calculate body mass index.

The game is played in 4 Categories: aerobic exercise, muscle workouts, yoga poses, and balance games. Each category contains a number of different activities to participate in. The activities are designed to provide a core workout that focuses on controlled movements without over doing it. There are 40 different activities total, and new poses and exercises are unlocked as you progress through the game.

Some of the activities include: Deep breathing and extended pose yoga exercises, step aerobics, jogging, hula hoop, ski jumping, snowboarding, balance games including table tilt where the player shifts their balance to control a ball in hole table game, and tightrope walking (watch out for the snappers!).

You can also play a penguin and catch fish or try the ZaZen activity where the player must remain completely motionless while staring at a flame. (its harder than it sounds!)

The creator of Wii-Fit, Shigeru Miyamoto, who also created Mario, The Legend of Zelda and Donkey Kong, says he was inspired by his family to create the game as they became more health conscious. Miyamoto and his family were tracking there weight and having fun discussing it, so he developed these games around their experiences as a “way to help families get their exercising together.”

Wii-fit is a fun way for the whole family to get fit and monitor their progress. Wii-fit is scheduled for a North American release in May, 2008.
